Media Release: Let’s Leverage the Minds of Our Youth
Darren Alexander proposes Youth Advisory Group for Hobart
One of the challenges faced by local government is trying to bridge the gap of disenfranchisement with millennials. Beset by the rising cost of housing, stagnant wage growth, and struggles of identity in an increasingly conservative world, we need a way to better represent a historically underrepresented group on the Hobart City Council.
In recent history, The Council has shown an unwillingness to embrace creativity and diversity, a regressive attitude towards development, and has far too often supressed alternative perspectives. From the notion of the current Lord Mayor denouncing Dark MOFO, to four years of inaction on the housing crisis, to the stifling the development of culture in the city.
