The Examiner: Darren Alexander has thrown his hat into the ring to become Hobart's next Lord Mayor
Former Launceston alderman Darren Alexander has announced his plans to run as Hobart’s next lord mayor.
Mr Alexander resigned from the City of Launceston council on Monday at the council’s August meeting.
He said work commitments had meant he was spending more and more time in Hobart.
“I didn’t think it was fair to stay on the City of Launceston,” he said.
In addition, his wife had indicated a desire to move back to Hobart to be closer to family.
Mr Alexander said he believed his past experience as alderman and his business acumen give him the right skills needed to be lord mayor.
“There are plenty of people putting their hand up right now for the role of mayor,” he said.
