I WANT TO DIGITIZE HOBART
Modern technology has the ability to greatly increase efficiency in terms of city planning and organisation. I have first hand experience with the impact that modern hardware and software can have on the operation and efficiency of businesses, organisations and cities.
I want to invest in digital tools that will allow us to create a comprehensive 3D model of the Hobart CBD which will allow us to see the future impacts of proposed developments. I want to demonstrate changes to traffic flow in real time, give developers certainty for the future and provide the public with information about their city's future.
I WANT TO IMPROVE PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND ROADS
It is very clear to me that anyone who lives anywhere near the vicinity of the Hobart CBD has observed the continual growth of traffic and congestion in the city. Part of the problem is due to the strong growth of inner city living, apartment living and the construction of new Hotels with severely insufficient parking capacity.
We need common sense, forward-thinking planning to tackle Hobart's traffic problems. We need to look forward when planning new developments, improve the efficiency of public transport in the city and ensure our road networks are capable of dealing with the volume of traffic they are currently receiving and will receive in the future.
I WANT TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO PUBLIC SPACES
Hobart has a wealth of great public spaces, but accessing these spaces is extremely difficult for many of Hobart's citizens. While I was door knocking, innumerable New Town residents told me about how difficult it was for them to walk or ride their bikes to the Domain.
I spoke with an architect to create a concept for a bridge to connect the residents of New Town to the world-class facilities of the Domain. I want to take action to connect the people of Hobart with the town's public spaces.
I WANT TO ATTRACT MAJOR EVENTS TO HOBART
Evidence demonstrates that major events like Dark MOFO and Festival of Voices attract many intrastate, interstate and international visitors to Hobart. Major events like these put the city of Hobart on the world stage and help to boost the city's economy during the Winter months which typically see a large drop off in tourism numbers.
Reports and independent studies have shown that Hobart has some of the friendliest people, and I have seen strong entrepreneurial spirits in Hobart residents. I want to support Hobart innovators to bring great new major events to city, and all of the benefits of these events with them.
I WANT TO FORM A REFERENCE GROUP WITH HOBART BUSINESSES
Business owners and the broader business community form the foundation of Hobart's CBD, and these people truly understand the intricacies of the issues that Hobart faces. I want to work closely with the business community to solve Hobart's problems and create economic opportunities for the city.
I want to use Council assets and infrastructure to support local businesses, and in turn create more local jobs for local people, and provide the economic stability that businesses need to bring innovation and creativity to the fore of what they do.
